Ace gardener Arthur Harrison, of Pentrich Road, Ripley, has grown a monster of a cabbage. The Cornish is a giant variety and it’s a whopper at around 6ft wide and weighing an eye-watering 107lbs, he says.
Arthur, 75, is a member of the National Vegetable Association and has won two of its coveted produce shows this year alone, with cabbages being a speciality. He says he has no secret to growing such monster, but reckons the wet season has actually been good for cabbages.
Thankfully retired brickyard worker Arthur and wife Enid, 73, love their greens. But even he admits they will be sharing with the neighbours with this giant offering.
