Helen and Michael Knott have directed the production which will be staged at St Mary’s Church, Wirksworth, on April 14, 15 and 16.

In keeping with previous productions by the theatre company, this new project will draw on talent from Wirksworth actors and musicians, comprehensive and junior school students, dancers, choir members and beyond. It will also incorporate the use of film and still photographs.

Mystery Plays were performed by medieval guilds and involved a re-telling of the great Bible stories using a mixture of reverence and comedy.

Lichfield Mysteries stage a festival of their complete Cycle of 27 plays every three years and have agreed both to let Wirksworth Community Theatre use their original scripts for the performance.

For 2016, the Wirksworth theatre group has been invited to perform their version of Noah’s Flood at Lichfield’s own festival in May.

With themes including temptation, shame, murder, human sacrifice, floods and a refugee crisis, this Wirksworth production is very much a set of plays for today!
