Playing Trevor Morgan, the hubby of little Mo Slater, he was at the heart of gritty scenes of domestic violence.

In his latest role, Alex will be courting sympathy as a heartbroken fiance whose love is found dead from an apparent suicide after the opening night of her stage debut.

He is cast as a playwright in the stage thriller Rehearsal for Murder, in which the writer assembles the same cast and crew in the same theatre, for a reading of his new play on the anniversary of his fiance’s death. But as the reading progresses, the play’s similarity to actual events becomes increasingly uncomfortable for the participants. It soon becomes clear that the playwright believes his fiance was murdered and his new play is a devious cat-and-mouse chase to uncover her killer...

Since his two-year stint in EastEnders concluded in 2002, Alex has performed in Kenneth Branagh’s Wallander, Ridley Scott’s Taboo and 24 alongside Keifer Sutherland on the small screen. His film credits include this summer’s blockbuster The Legend of Trazan, the Kray twins biopic Legend with Tom Hardy and Romans, alongside Kiefer Sutherland.

Rehearsal for Murder tours to Chesterfield’s Pomegranate Theatre from July 25 to 30.

Showbiz legend Anita Harris plays the producer in the thriller. She has clocked up six decades in theatre, music and film. Her lead stage roles include My Cousin Rachel, Bell Book and Candle and Miss Hannigan in Annie, she has appeared in two Carry On films and hit the charts with songs Anniversary Waltz and Dream a Little Dream of Me.

Gary Mavers, fresh from playing Gordon Livesy in Emmerdale and best known for his role as heart-throb doctor Andrew Attwood in more than 100 episodes of Peak Practice, plays the director in the show.

Susie Amy from Footballers’ Wives, Echo Beach and My Family is cast as the star and Sixties’ pop legend Mark Wynter plays one of the actors.

Rehearsal for Murder is written by Richard Levinson and William Link who penned Murder She Wrote and TV’s Columbo.
