Stunning pictures show inside of long-abandoned 180-year-old north Derbyshire railway station - but now set for a brighter future

A long-abandoned railway station – once named among the most at-risk buildings in Britain – is set for a new lease of life.

After standing unused and relatively untouched since passenger services ended in 1967, plans are afoot to refurbish and restore the Grade II*-listed Wingfield Station, which first opened in 1840.

The station – named as one of the country’s 10 most threatened Victorian and Edwardian structures back in 2012 – is being restored to its original 19th Century condition after the Derbyshire Historic Buildings Trust took over the building and secured funding from Historic England and the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
