Take a look inside this derelict Grade II listed Derbyshire grammar school

Pictures from an anonymous urban explorer have revealed the extent of disrepair inside an empty Grade II listed Derbyshire grammar school which has been derelict for eight years.

The solo adventurer who runs Facebook page ‘Lost Places and Forgotten Faces’ which has over 31,000 likes as it shares images of the north's most neglected historic locations, visited Heanor Grammar School in March earlier this year.

He snapped pictures inside the derelict Grade II listed building on Mundy Street, which he said ‘was simple enough’ to get into and showed how the school is starting to decay after it has sat empty for eight years.

Amber Valley Borough Council offered to buy the building off its owners Derby firm Vale Property Limited in January, 2021.

However, the council said: “There is a very significant gulf between owner’s current asking price and the council’s own independent valuation.

“If it is not possible to agree a price which reflects the actual value of the grammar school site, then the only practical option will be to seek acquisition via compulsory purchase order (CPO).”
