The UK's vaccine supply has been affected by a delay to a shipment from the Serum Institute of India.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock told MPs today the issue will not affect people getting their second doses and insisted there would be ‘no impact on the roadmap’ out of lockdown.

Joined Up Care Derbyshire (JUCD) also said it was confident of meeting next month’s targets.

“We are confident that the vaccination teams across Derbyshire will rise to the challenge of meeting the NHS’s mid-April target to offer first jabs to everyone who is aged 50 and over or in the top nine vaccination priority groups,” a JUCD spokesperson said.

“We are determined that no-one should be left behind, and we will continue to focus our efforts and resources on reaching out to as many eligible people as possible who have not yet come forward for their first dose.

“At the same time, we are continuing to ensuring that second doses are administered to those people who are due them.”

Mr Hancock also revealed that a separate batch of 1.7 million doses was held up as it needed to be retested.

NHS England warned of a reduction in supply in April in a letter sent to local health organisations on Wednesday.

In a statement to the House of Commons, Mr Hancock said the government was still ‘on track’ to deliver on the ‘targets to offer the vaccine to everyone 50 and over, and all adults by the end of July’.
