Aston Martin has revealed details of its fastest, most power model yet – the DBS Superleggera.

Replacing the Vanquish S, the new model revives the DBS name last used in 2012 and introduces a new flagship road car for the British manufacturer.

Powered by a revised version of the company’s twin-turbo 5.2-litre V12 engine, the DBS Superleggera produces 715bhp and 664lb/ft of torque. The DB11 AMR, until now Aston’s top-of-the-range machine produces “just” 630bhp and 516lb/ft.

All that power combined with a relatively low dry weight of 1,693kg (superleggera is Italian for “super light”) means the DBS will hit 62mph in 3.4 seconds, 100mph in 6.4 seconds and race on to a top speed of 211mph.

The power is delivered to the rear wheels by a new ZF eight-speed auto gearbox.

Developed from the platform of the DB11, the £225,000 DBS is a lightweight super GT designed to take on Ferrari’s 812 Superfast and evoke memories of previous models such as the DB4, DB5 and DB6, all of which enjoy Superleggera versions of their own.

The chassis is an evolution of the bonded aluminium structure first seen on the DB11, with forged double wishbone suspension at the front and a sophisticated multi-link system at the rear. Adaptive damping is fitted as standard and the car features three driving modes which affect damper and drivetrain settings.

The DBS has also evolved the DB11’s aerodynamics and added an F1-inspired double-diffuser, meaning it generates 180kg of downforce at its top speed – the highest figure ever for a series production Aston Martin.

Aston Martin president, Dr Andy Palmer said: “DBS Superleggera not only marks the return of a great Aston Martin name, but signals our return to the very pinnacle of the Super GT sector.

“Immaculately styled, obsessively engineered and outrageously potent, the new DBS Superleggera is every inch the Aston Martin flagship”.
