Comedy veteran Don Maclean is to play the panto dame this Christmas in Jack And The Beanstalk at Derby’s Assembly Rooms.
The show runs from December 4-January 5 and will be the latest to be produced at the venue by Paul Holman Associates.
Most people over the age of 30 remember a time when five to five on a Friday afternoon heralded the start of comedy chaos and calamities from the children’s TV programme Crackerjack! The iconic BBC1 show was watched by millions of children and one of its stars was comedian Don Maclean.
Since then, Don has hosted many successful TV game shows, was a regular contestant on Celebrity Squares, and has hosted Songs of Praise. For over 16 years he could be heard on BBC Radio 2 with Good Morning Sunday and has since gone onto to receive an MBE and a Papal Knight.
Paul Holman said: “We have a pedigree package of daily daftness delivered by a double dose of Macleans this Christmas! Don Maclean will be joining Derby’s favourite other McClean, Mike. The combination of Mike’s in your face, quickfire humour and Don’s traditional portrayal of pantomime dame will create a colourful tapestry of tomfoolery for all the family.”
