New comedy for Alfreton

An Alfreton amateur drama group is to stage a new comedy next month.

Alfreton Wesley Drama Group is presenting the play Hero on Thursday and Friday, July 24 and 25, at 7pm.

The group, which meets at the Wesley Methodist Church in Ellesmere Avenue, Alfreton, has been presenting plays for about 25 years, and now stages three productions a year.

Hero is set in the 1960s, as a family’s plans to honour a First World War veteran’s bravery come unstuck.

n There will be a Last Night of the Proms concert on Saturday in Swanwick’s St. Andrew’s Church.

Specialising in encouraging new and young talent, Blidworth Band are accompanied by soprano Charlotte Collier, currently studying at Mansfield’s Garibaldi College and a member of the renowned Cantamus girls’ choir.

Talented organist George Warren, who will also appear, currently studies at Chetham’s School of Music at Manchester and regularly travels to Germany in the summer to aid Prof. Dr. Ian Tracey in his organ recitals.
