Local audiences love to laugh and will soon have plenty more to tickle their funny bone when the first Derby Comedy Festival is launched this June.

Derby LIVE will work alongside other arts organisations in the city, including Déda, Derby Independent Theatre Network, Derby Theatre, Funhouse Comedy, Furthest From the Sea, Quad and Sinfonia Viva, to programme over a week of events running from June 13-22.

The festival will feature many comedy genres including: stand-up, improv, puppetry, children’s comedy, burlesque and theatre and will appeal to a wide range of audiences.

With a programme packed full of the hottest comedic talent, from local comedians and actors to rising stars and household names, the festival will bring a host of vibrant and appealing events to Derby audiences.

Bob Rushton, programme manager for Derby LIVE said: “As we have a proven track record of bringing acts ranging from the innovative and groundbreaking to mainstream household names to the city, we felt the timing was right to take Derby’s comedy credentials to the next level and to tie in with Derby’s blossoming festival culture. Working with our partners in the city, we hope to do just that.”
