People are being invited to travel back in time and relive the nostalgic era of the ‘40’s as Peak Rail plays host to various re-enacting groups, together with a whole multitude of displays and vehicles and gives you an insight into how civilians and troops survived during WWII.
There will be numerous new displays for this year’s show including the Airborne Assortment displaying a 50th US Field Hospital Unit and a variety of equipment, typically used at an aid station of this time, along with medical personnel.
The British Military Encampment, with a selection of Guns and a Mine Field together with a BSA Motorcycle.
The D-Day 45, a British Encampment consisting of pup tent displays containing a bazooka team foxhole along with a light machine gun emplacement and a standard Airborne Infantry foxhole display plus a Bedford Lorry.
A Fire Power Display, Pontefract Home Guard – Local Defence Volunteers (LDV), Home Front Picnic Display, Military Rifle Range, US Field Kitchen complete with GMC trucks, water container and trailer to name but a few.
As always re-enactors from the German Paratroopers Division, Red Army, British and USA encampments will be taking part in a breath-taking battle scenario complete with blank ammunition, military vehicles and fantastic pyrotechnics.
Other attractions will include a French Farmhouse and pill box display, the GI44/45 Group – WW11 Anti Aircraft Encampment alongside WW11 Anti Tank Encampment. US Military and Home Front (including Air Raid Shelter), WW11 Bofor anti aircraft gun display and Wartime Memorabilia Stalls selling Military and Civilian artefacts.
Throughout the two day event entertainment in the marquee will be provided by regular E.N.S.A entertainer Paul Harper supported by Marina Mea. The ever popular Dove Holes Brass Band will be playing a selection of 1940’s hits, Paul Casper will be appearing as George Formby and for the children there’s a traditional Punch and Judy Show.
The event is open between 10.30am to 5.30pm. on both days.
