Buxton Festival has been nominated for an award in the opera category at the prestigious South Bank Sky Arts Awards.
The Derbyshire festival will be competing with opera heavyweights the Royal Opera House and English National Opera with their 2011 production of Thomas’s Mignon.
The creative team and cast from the production will attend the glitzy awards ceremony in London, standing alongside stars from the music and TV world, including nominees such as Adele, Kate Bush, BBC TV’s Sherlock and Channel 4’s Fresh Meat.
The South Bank Sky Arts Awards are one of the world’s most coveted arts awards.
Glyn Foley, Buxton Festival chief executive said: We’re thrilled to be nominated for such an esteemed arts award celebrating the very best of British talent. To be nominated alongside ENO and the Royal Opera House is a real honour, and shows the standards Festival audiences can now expect from us. We’re delighted that our work has been recognised as outstanding at this level.”
