Belper-based choir BelCanto has raised £3,100 for Help For Heroes through recent performances of its show Only Remembered.
This musical drama, devised by choir member Neil Hartshorn, was put together to commemorate the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War and it was performed in late July and early August at a number of Derbyshire venues.
Audience reaction was extremely positive, as evidenced by the applause at the conclusion of each show, and the 620 or so people who paid to see the shows were well entertained.
BelCanto Male Chorus would like to thank their sponsors:

A spokesman for BelCanto said: “As a result of their generosity, we will be able to donate ALL ticket sale proceeds to our chosen charity Help for Heroes, so far amounting to £3,100. Ticket sales were also helped by a ‘meal deal’ offered by Georges Tradition Restaurants on the reverse of each ticket.
“We have now been booked for another performance of Only Remembered, to be held at Ashbourne Methodist Church on Friday, September 26, at 7.30pm.”
Tickets can be obtained from Mrs. Trilby Shaw, of 107 Mayfield Road, Ashbourne, DE6 1AS (Tel: 01335-300359). Proceeds from this concert will also be donated to Help for Heroes.
BelCanto Male Chorus will be arranging a cheque handover in October for the total raised at all concerts.
BelCanto Male Chorus is based in Belper. It aims to introduce audiences to a new génre of male choral music.
BelCanto intends to make male voice singing an interesting, enjoyable and stimulating experience for those new to group singing and a new challenge to those already familiar with male voice choirs.
The small group first came together in October 2009, under the musical direction of Andrew White and accompanist Sîan Mosley.
The ensemble’s aim is to produce some beautiful sounds while enjoying the camaraderie which singing together brings.
Belcanto now rehearses each Tuesday evening from 7.45pm to 9.45pm in Belper Baptist Church, Bridge Street, Belper.
New members are always given a warm welcome.
