It’s back! Mowfest is returning to The Barley Mow in Bonsall this Bank Holiday weekend, featuring a superb array of live music.

Mowfest takes place on Bank Holiday Monday (August 25) and forms the culmination of a busy weekend of music-making at the popular venue.

On Friday night (and every Friday night in fact), The Barley Mow has its Friday Night Music Club, an open acoustic session which is always well attended and runs from 9pm. The Barley Mow welcomes performers of all styles and abilities.

Saturday night features a performance from 9pm by the hugely popular Chesterfield-based band The Pitz.

Sunday Night will see the extremely engaging performer Whisky Bob Shaker in action at The Barley Mow, using loop pedals and strange instrumentation (even a didgeridoo) to build epic soundscapes of well-known songs, topped off with a great voice. He was an actor by trade and clearly knows the value of theatre in what is always a great performance.

Then, on Bank Holiday Monday, it’s time for the return of Mowfest, running all day from 1pm-10pm, and featuring a range of musical performances. If the weather stays fair, it will take place on a little stage in the Barley Mow’s car park (inside if wet).

Among the bands appearing at Mowfest will be rising Americana stars The Most Ugly Child, recently signed to a small independent label and with a new EP out which has also received rave reviews too.

Hailing from Nottinghamshire, they have a reputation as a great live band, complete with fiddles, double bass, great energy and a loved-up, newly engaged lead singing/playing couple to boot.

Also playing will be Red Fire Ants, an Alfreton/Ilkeston based four-piece, who play alt. rock/folk, featuring the strong songwriting ability of lead singer Jake Robinson, and very talented musicianship all round. You can expect some big, epic songs, using layers of vocal harmony, and plenty of talent on show.

Entry is free and there will also be a huge array of real ale and cider choices for you to buy, plus an all-day barbecue.
