THE BBC Philharmonic Orchestra will be performing at Nottingham’s Royal Concert Hall on Thursday, April 26, from 7.30pm, in a concert entitled Discovering Mahler.
Hosted by BBC Radio Three presenter Stephen Johnson, the concert focuses on just one work, Mahler’s Fifth Symphony, an epic journey across five diverse movements.
Beginning with an omimous trumpet fanfare and proceeding through a funeral march and many other varied moods, it eventually progresses to a triumphant, life-affirming ending.
Stephen Johnson, the orchestra and conductor Juanjo Mena will be presenting a user-friendly guide to Mahler’s unique soundworld before a complete performance of the symphony.
Tickets cost £10. Call the box office for more details on 0115 9895555.
