Derby Concert Orchestra will play the first of their two annual concerts at St Mary’s Church in Wirksworth on Saturday, May 17.

The concert will be conducted by Jonathan Trout and features four attractive and contrasting works.

Two are popular compositions by Englishmen - Elgar’s Enigma Variations and George Butterworth’s A Shropshire Lad Rhapsody.

The other two pieces in the concert are to be Smetana’s bustling overture to his opera The Bartered Bride, and Rachmaninov’s much-loved Rhapsody On A Theme Of Paganini.
