Butterley Hill Lodge in Ripley will be turning back the clock on Friday, January 24, when the venue presents Vince’s Eager’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Britannia, an eagerly-awaited show starring Vince Eager and the Memphis Tones.

Vince Eager is one of the pioneers of British rock ‘n’ roll, a contemporary of the likes of Cliff Richard and Billy Fury.

He will start the evening by giving a one-hour talk and slide presentation on the birth of British rock ‘n’ roll, featuring many unseen photographs and fascinating insider stories.

Vince appeared on all of the television pop shows that launched rock ‘n’ roll in Britain such as the 6-5 Special, Oh Boy! Drumbeat and Cool for Cats.

He also performed on all the major rock ‘n’ roll theatre tours along with Marty Wilde, Cliff Richard, Billy Fury, Joe Brown, Adam Faith and the American rockers Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent, Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis.

As Vince became good pals with most of the artistes he worked with, he recalls hilarious and sad tales from behind the scenes, including his first hand account of the tragic Eddie Cochran and Gene Vincent tour that resulted in Eddie’s demise in 1960.

His book, Vince Eager’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Files, was a best seller in the music genre category and his writing, recording and broadcasting have all played a major role in Vince’s life

However, it’s singing that is his first love and continues to motivate him.

After spending 55 years as a performer, he is affectionately known in the industry as “Vince the Voice”, and later in the evening he will be joined by his band The Memphis Tones as he turns back the musical clock to an era that saw the birth of British rock ‘n roll.
