Sally Barker returns to The Queens Head in Belper for a gig there on Saturday, January 25. Sally Barker has had an extraordinary musical career by any standards.
Leicestershire-born Sally has toured with artists as diverse as Richard Thompson and Taj Mahal while opening for the likes of Bob Dylan and Robert Plant in front of vast stadium audiences.
Widely categorised as ‘folk’, her musical roots are in fact far more diverse, owing as much to soul and gospel influences, with her vocals often compared with Aretha Franklin and other soul greats.
Now, after years of solo performance, Sally is far more focused on collaborative experiments, bringing to mind her work with the excellent and recently reformed Poozies.
Last seen in Belper with US guitar maestro, Vicki Genfan, Sally now returns in collaboration with guitarist Keith Buck for an evening of soaring vocals and accomplished playing at the Chesterfield Road-based venue.
Admission on Saturday is £7 and doors open at 8.15pm.
