Winter Wilson will play The Queen’s Head in Belper on Saturday, February 22, as part of their Cutting Free tour.
After two stunning performances at last year’s Derby Folk Festival, Winter Wilson can barely have left the stage in The Great Hall before their services were re-enlisted for the 2014 festival.
Long established on the club and festival scene, the duo combine consummate musicianship with crafted songwriting and compelling stage presence.
With roots going deep into British and American traditions, Dave Wilson’s writing fuses sharp social commentary with more intimate material.
Indeed, their new album Cutting Free ranges from bitter reflections on The First World War to murder ballad and love song. After years of writing and performing, he seems to have developed the knack of writing the perfect words for his and Kip Winter’s distinctive vocals.
Kip Winter’s voice is one of the best in the business, delivering power and emotion in equal measure. In the past she has sung everything from jazz to opera, but is at her best and happiest when singing folk and blues.
Expect an evening of eclectic music, crafted material and passionate performances.
Admission is £7. Doors at 8.15pm.
