Folk ace is at the Top Bar

NORTHUMBRIAN folk ace Johnny Dickinson is to perform at The Top Bar @ The Queen’s Head in Belper on Saturday, April 28.

Described as “the most potent slide player in the UK”, he has developed a unique individual style of playing which crosses Celtic flavours with American Blues.

Two things are immediately obvious about Johnny as a performer; firstly, his guitar tone is immaculate, a fine, precise, shimmering presence which is at once spooky and sparse.

The second thing is the languid, full-ranged vocal style, which hints at rock rather than folk origins but has a timeless, earthy quality.

This is a laidback but totally aware musician who plays classic minimalist works, which are grounded, like the composer himself, in his home county but with a modern slant.

BelperMusicAndArts is really excited about bringing this performer to the Chesterfield Road-based venue. Doors open at 8.15pm for a 9pm start and it is £7 on the door to get in.
