Derbyshire women’s chorus DaleDiva has won a silver medal in an international singing competition in Ireland.
The Cromford-based group took on tough competition from England, Ireland and the Netherlands in the 24th Irish Association of Barbershop Singers (IABS) Convention at the Theatre Royal in Waterford and were placed just five points behind the winners from Holland.
And it was a double celebration as DaleDiva quartet Farenheit (pictured) – Ally Law, Amie Forster, Leisha Martin and Sue Kemp – also had a successful competition, taking gold – their best result to date.
The success adds to DaleDiva’s other major achievement this year, taking a silver medal at The Sage in Gateshead in May where they battled it out alongside 21 of some of the UK’s best choruses.
DaleDiva founder and musical director Ally Law said: “We were so proud to represent Derbyshire in Ireland and bring home a silver medal. It was a fantastic result for us against such tough international competition and such great news to celebrate ahead of our major stage show at Derby Theatre, where we will be performing the songs the judges scored so highly.”
The chorus is preparing to stage its fourth major stage show, Showtime! at Derby Theatre on Sunday, November 3.
The show is being organised to celebrate six years of success for the four-part harmony group and will also feature female quartets Farenheit, Q Music and Starlight as well current bronze medal male vocal quartet HomeSpun.
Tickets for the matinee performance of Showtime! at 2.30pm are £12.50 (£10 concessions) or £40 for a family ticket (two adults and two concessions). Seats for the performance at 7.30pm are £15 (£12.50 concessions) or £50 for a family ticket, available from Rachael Flaxmer at firstname.lastname@example.org or 0794 087 7825.
