DERBY Concert Orchestra complete their 61st season on Saturday, July 9, with a performance at St Mary’s Church in Wirksworth, from 7.30pm.
The concert, to be conducted by Jonathan Trout, features a performance of Robert Dickinson’s new overture Tilt-A-Whirl, in addition to some more familiar works.
These are Sibelius’s highly popular Karelia Suite – the opening Intermezzo was used for many years as the theme music to ITV’s current affairs programme This Week – plus two richly contrasting movements from the same composer’s Lemminkainen Suite. These are the mournful Swan Of Tuonela and the bustling Lemminkainen’s Return. The concert is to be completed by Dvorak’s Seventh Symphony.
Tickets are £10 (£8 concessions) and under 16s can get in free with an adult.
They are available from Paynes the Chemist in Wirksworth, from orchestra members and on the door.
