Artist Ruth Goodheir’s work is to be exhibited in the Sir Richard Morris Lounge at Derby Cathedral Centre throughout April.

Ruth is an experienced artist who grew up on a council housing estate near Glasgow and now lives on the Isle of Skye.

Some years ago, she went through a personal crisis suffering physically, mentally and emotionally.

During this time, she was encouraged to use her drawing skills, not to depict the outside world but to explore her own inner thoughts and feelings.

Finding a vertebra bone washed up near the Abbey while living in the Iona community it became a starting point, but her drawings took on a life of their own, taking her on a personal journey of spiritual growth.

She said: “During this time, I experienced joy and pain, darkness and light, storm and calm and a sense of the sacredness of creation.

“The imagery of the paintings is Christian but I have discovered that they can speak to people of all faiths and none.”

The exhibition can be seen throughout the month, Monday to Saturday from 9am to 5pm (closed Sundays and Bank Holidays).
