2011 has been a successful year for former Matlock resident and artist Jim McElvaney, starting with a show at The Outsiders, Newcastle, and including a forthcoming solo exhibition in Brighton.
And the year is about to get even better for Jim when his career takes an exciting new direction with an exhibition due to open in South Korea. Mind the Gap, a group show featuring three British artists opens at the Lotte Gallery, Seoul, on September 17 and will take Jim’s work to a whole new audience.
Jim said: “It’s quite surreal. I never imagined when I was at Highfields School, painting with powder paints, that I would be showing my work across the world. I owe it all to Mr Richards.”
Jim’s work will also be exhibited at the 4th Moscow Biennale at the end of the month.
To add to all this, his new exhibition – Stop Looking At The Walls, Look Out The Window – can be seen from September 30 to October 23 at No Walls Gallery, which is based in Brighton, where he now lives.
