A bodybuilder from Selston has reached the UK Novice BodyBuilding Finals by coming third in his first ever competition.

Lee Bannister, 25, was competing in the Midlands Novice Competition in Kettering earlier this month and his performance was enough to secure a place in the national finals, which will take place in Dudley on November 23.

Bannister, who used to live in Heanor and who went in Aldercar, followed that up with a third place in a competition in Leeds last Sunday.

Bannister has been into bodybuilding since he was a youngster but has only been partaking seriously in the discipline for the last six years.

Having moved to a new gym - The Colosseum in Eastwood - he has made great strides and now has a busy schedule of training five days a week ahead of him in preparation for November’s finals in the West Midlands.

Lee said: “I’d like to say thanks to my wife, Leanna, for preparing my diet and to Aaron McCallum who trains me and has helped in my preparations for these competitions.”
