The Ron Sayer Band will return to The Flowerpot in Derby on Friday, January 17, for their second headline appearance there.
The band is fronted by one of this country’s leading guitarists and most entertaining performers.
The gig will aim to kick off another year of live music at The Flowerpot in style.
Ron began playing guitar at the age of seven and was gigging by the time he was ten.
He won the coveted title of Guitarist Of The Year and has played with/supported Buddy Guy, John Mayall, Walter Trout, Robin Trower, Ten Years After, Imelda May, Matt Schofield. Debbie Davies, Nine Below Zero, Stan Webb, Aynsley Lister, Oli Brown, Buddy Whittington and Popa Chubby.
His music is a combination of blues, funk and rock and strives to create something fresh and uncomplicated for guitar music lovers everywhere.
Then, on Saturday, January 18, the guest performers at the King Street venue will be Green Date with a tribute to Green Day.
The formation of Green Date pre-dates the world shaking arrival of the album American Idiot and the never-to-be-forgotten Bullet In A Bible tour.
In that time Green Date has grown from strength to strength, performing their own mammoth gigs up to two and half hours in length.
Based in Nottinghamshire, Green Date are one of the finest tribute bands, displaying their talents to fans across the four corners of the British Isles and further afield into mainland Europe.
Now well established in the nation’s punk circle, the members of Green Date are all gifted musicians in their own right.
However, the passion and creative edge that comes across in their live shows derives from their collective love of the band they so closely emulate, Green Day.
Green Date perform from Green Day’s extensive back catalogue, ranging from their first EP 1039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours, through Kerplunk, Dookie, Insomniac, Nimrod, Warning, the multi platinum American Idiot, right up to the latest No1 selling album 21st Century Break Down.
The set will include classics such as Basket Case, When I Come Around, Good Riddance, Brainstew, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Wake Me Up When September Ends and many, many more.
Meanwhile, there is to be an Acoustic Wednesdays session on January 22, featuring roots and blues from Dave O’Grady.
This gig will have free admission and takes place in the bar.
Doors open for all gigs at 8pm and admission is £10 for The Ron Sayer Band and £8 for Green Date.
