Here is the report for week 18 of the Ripley and District Skittles League.
“Can we play you every week?” could have been the cry from the Heanor Town FC team after they had recorded only their third win of the season, but the second one against the Kings Arms.
They beat their Crich opponents 7-0 for the second time this season but still stay rooted to the foot of Division One.
At the top of this division, all three sides won 7-0 and with the Travellers Rest now having a ten-point lead it will be difficult for the Hawthorns and the Station to catch them up.
The Jacksdale Social Club failed to raise a team and had to concede the points to the Spanker, which now puts the Nether Heage side joint fourth with the Honeypot.
In Division Two, the Duke of Sussex are the champions! They scored a very impressive 220 pins and without a single stick up. In their first season in the Ripley League they have not lost a single game and have played in a very friendly and sporting manner.
Second-placed Jolly Colliers lost yet again, this time at the CPI Club, but are still favourites to achieve promotion in their first season in the league.
However, the Sun Inn and the Somercotes Snooker Club will make them sweat for a few weeks as they both won to keep up the pressure on the Heanor side. At the bottom of Division Two, the Old English Gentleman won for the second consecutive week! They beat the Derby Arms and are now just eleven points behind the Beehive with three games to play.
In the Premier Division, the Market Tavern had to relocate to the Staff of Life after their pub closed down. This didn’t hinder the side at all and they beat the Arkwright 7-0. The Belper side were probably the Market’s only realistic challengers for the title, but on the match night they were not even close to the Market losing by nearly 40 pins.
In one leg, the Market equalled the top score in one leg this season, which was set at 80 by the Eclipse last week. In the other matches in the Premier Division, the Out of Town won at the Village, the Red Lion comfortably gained revenge beating the Railway who had beaten them earlier on in the season and the Boot & Slipper surprisingly won at the Gate.
This effectively put the Loscoe Gate out of the running for the title and made it difficult for them to get runners up.
