Youth League U16s Division 1

Wirksworth 0, Ripley 11

Despite not playing for two months, Ripley picked up where they left off, on the winning trail.

Ripley began on the attack and it was not long before striker Josh Timmis netted from close range.

The visitors played the ball around superbly and soon doubled their lead with Ross Hopkinson netting after a goalkeeping error.

At 2-0 Ripley sat back, giving Wirksworth some possession but Ripley’s front line kept Wirksworth’s defence busy and George Halahan soon netted straight from a corner making it three.

It was not long before it was four with Dylan Gregory chipping the keeper, followed up with another for Ross to make the lead five at the break.

The second half saw Ripley again press the home goal and Timmis ran clear to shoot past the Wirksworth keeper to make it six.

As with the first half the visitors sat back giving the Wirksworth team a couple of glimpses of the Ripley goal, but as in the first half Ripley scored with Timmis netting his hat-trick goal and Ripley’s seventh shortly followed by Halahan’s second to make it eight.

Ripley were now cruising and Timmis netted his fourth and Ripley’s ninth with a great break through the defence and again finishing in style.

Halahan also netted his hat-rick with a low left footed drive past the keeper.

With minute’s remaining Ripley broke through again but a reckless challenge by a home defender gave Ripley another chance from the spot in which substitute Sydney Fletcher netted his first ever goal for Ripley with a thunderous drive to make it an away 11-0 win for Ripley.

Ripley man of match: Josh Timmis.

Ripley’s next game is at home to Somersall this Sunday on Greenwich at 11am.
