Shipley Hall CC 1sts pulled out all the stops and took the full 27 points on Saturday when they beat Wirksworth and Middleton in Division Three of the Derbyshire County Cricket League.
A feature of the game was Shipley’s fielding and catching, which were the deciding factors in their splendid victory.
Wirksworth won the toss and and asked Shipley to bat first.
Neil Parkin (19) and Jean Gregg (18) gave Shipley a sound start, putting on 41 for the first wicket, and after they were out, Ryan North (24) and James Cokayne (15) carried on the good work, but Shipley slumped to 100-7 after that.
It was at that point that Matt Murfin came to the rescue with an attacking 37, and Shipley were all out for 149, a modest total, but it was noticeable the wicket was unpredictable at times, and batsmen would have to earn their runs.
When Wirksworth batted, M Jefferies played a painstaking innings of 38 but was then caught by James Cokayne off the bowling of Tom Starr.
The fielding and catching by the Shipley players was of a very high standard. Ryan North in particular excelled.
Matt Murfin bowled well to take 3-36, as did James Parkin (3-15) with Tom Starr (2-32) and James Cokayne (2-15) in support.
With full support from the fielders, Shipley Hall got them all out for a mere 100 runs.
