Sporting scene frozen off

THE weekend’s local sporting scene was totally obliterated by the freezing temperatures with every fixture throughout the area being postponed.

Freezing temperatures put paid to all the scheduled local football and rugby games with pitches suffering from severe frosts which had been prevalent in the nights leading up to the weekend.

Every single game in the Midlands Regional Alliance and East Midlands Counties League’s was postponed, as was Alfreton Town’s FA Trophy tie at Gateshead which has been rescheduled for Tuesday evening at the International Arena on Tyneside.

However, midweek fixtures were also expected to suffer. On top of the snow falls which arrived later on Saturday, freezing temperatures forecast for Monday and Tuesday evenings will only exacerbate the problems already experienced.
