This Saturday (September 13) will see the Neil Dalton Cricket Day take place at Belper Amateurs CC.
The club is based at The Packhorse Ground, Sandyford Lane, Alderwasley, and the day will consist of cricket matches played between representative sides from Belper Amateurs, Belper Meadows, Ambergate and a team of Neil’s friends.
The day aims to provide a fitting tribute to Neil, who was murdered in Borneo last month.
Entertainment aside from cricket involves live music in the evening and a variety of games and activities occurring during the day. Money made will be donated to Neil’s charity of choice, the Anthony Nolan Trust, the blood cancer charity. A portion of the money raised on the barbecue and bar will also be put towards a patio area of the Belper Amateurs’ clubhouse that will be constructed in Neil’s memory.
There will be four cricket matches played, each in a 15-over format, with the first, Belper Amateurs XI vs Neil’s Friends XI, to be played from around 10am. Belper Meadows XI vs Ambergate XI will follow and the two losing sides will then compete against each other before the stage is cleared for the winning two teams.
The teams will compete to win the Neil Dalton Trophy.
Entertainment will be provided with a variety of bands playing.
A raffle will also be running, with prizes including a professionally made cricket-themed cake and two family tickets for Megazone in Derby.
Anybody who knew Neil Dalton is urged to attend, regardless of your link to cricket. The day is designed to be a celebration of his life.
A spokesman said: “We would love to see as many of you at the ground as possible to make the day a glowing success, providing Neil with the send-off that his brilliance as a person deserves.”
