Shipley Hall CC keen to bounce back

Shipley Hall Cricket Club first XI will be keen to bounce back from an opening day Derbyshire County Cricket League division two 37-run defeat at Clay Cross.

Clay Cross (27pts) 179-9 [46 overs] (A Woodhouse 71, G Farnsworth 3-39, D Haddon 4-35) beat Shipley Hall (6pts) 142 all out [34.4 overs] (G Small 62, A Bowley 30*, B Clark 5-20) by 37 runs.

Weather permitting, this Saturday will see Shipley’s first home league game when Nutbrook are the visitors.

The team are expecting a better showing this season and will be joined by 19-year-old South African Grant Small who is subject to promising reports with both bat and ball.

With Adam Leigh linking forces with the excellent James Cokayne and Danny Hanson there should be plenty of runs in the line up for second season skipper Ryan North.

The Sunday XI will again play in the Newark Alliance under new skipper Scott Parkin.

There will again be an age group junior team at every level and the teams will play locally in the Erewash Young Cricketers League. Practice night at Shipley is Wednesday from 6pm and new members are always welcome.

Winter work at the club has seen a new artificial wicket installed and improvements made to nets, changing and scoring facilities.

Shipley is a delightful spot to both play and watch cricket during a hopefully warm summer. It’s well worth finding !!
