Teenage race star Kyle Ryde returned to action in fine style at the weekend to claim his first ever victory in the 600cc Superstock series in what was only his fifth ever race in the competition.

The 16-year-old from Jacksdale, who was competing aboard the Pace Dayz machine of the Alfreton-based Craig Fitzpatrick team (CF Motorsport), left it late to clinch the superb victory after an exciting ding-dong battle with series leader Andy Reid that was only decided on the penultimate bend of the race.

This series is a support race for the British Superbike championship and the weekend’s round was at the picturesque Snetterton circuit in Norfolk.

Ryde’s weekend got off to a flying start with a good third position in free practice and then on the Saturday’s two qualifying sessions, he was third in the first qualifying, followed by an even stronger second session where he claimed first and on combined times was rewarded with his first ever pole positionin a 600cc race.

On Sunday’s race day, Ryde went straight into a commanding lead with Reid in hot pursuit.

The main pack settled down, but for Ryde and Reid this was going to be a two-horse race.

The main pack settled down and by the second lap Reid had got past Ryde, but wasn’t able to escape this determined youngster’s clutches and establish a decisive lead.

By lap six, Ryde was in front but by only 0.18 seconds and had set the fastest lap of the race, while Mason Law in third was several minutes back.

As Ryde was chasing the rear end of Reid’s machine going into the closing stages, he was also planning his grand finale and as the matching pair entered the next to last bend, Ryde made a move up the inside line and held this line.

As he exited the final corner onto the finish straight, Reid tried to fight back, but to no avail and the youngster from Jacksdale took his first ever 600cc Superstock Race win.

This has now placed him third overall in the championship, and succeeded in laying down a considerable marker for the rest of the campaign.

Kyle Ryde’s next round in this Superstock 600 series will take place at Knockhill Circuit in Scotland over the weekend of June 27-29.
