Alfreton Cricket Club 1sts kept the DCCL Division One title race running until the last weekend after a crushing win at Ambergate on Saturday.
Asked to bat first, Matt Lineker and Ryan Bramwell set the total up well with a partnership of 62 for the first wicket before the latter fell for 14.
Ahtesham Yaqoob was the wicket taker and he was in the action soon after to remove Alex Mace for five to leave the score on 76-2.
Lineker was unperturbed and, through partnerships with Andy Gwatkin (37) and Tom Bentley (36), continued the quick early progress.
When the opener was Yaqoob’s fourth victim, falling for 186 off just 123 balls, captain Mace declared with the score on 308-5, to give the bowlers ample time to gain the 27 points.
Initially, the bowlers were left frustrated as Chris Whiteley and Mark Heath kept the Alfreton opening attack out.
Callum Spencer got the important first wicket, having Heath caught in the gully for a painstaking two off 37 deliveries.
Jonathon Clarke was the next bowler in the action, getting Whiteley (31) and Shazad Ahmed (17) as the score became 61-3.
Ambergate never looked like recovering from there and John Aspinall and Gwatkin chipped in with a wicket apiece to keep the wickets tumbling.
The stage was then set for Adam Burton to finish the innings after bowling for no reward at the beginning of the innings.
He took the last four wickets to fall, Whiteley’s 31 the highest score of the innings as Ambergate were bowled out for 128.
The wickets also took the paceman’s tally of wickets for 2013 to 65, Alfreton running out easy 180-run victors in the progress.
This weekend, a potential title-deciding clash takes place at Alfreton Park as the home side welcome Marehay before the season draws to a close with a trip to Quarndon.
