FOR the second successive weekend, the new cricket season saw the fixture list decimated by the persistent and heavy rains which fell during the days prior to the Saturday.
Ambergate CC’s Derbyshire County Cricket League first XI scheduled home game against Clay Cross had no chance of going ahead with the wicket and covers under water on the Friday and becoming a play ground for ducks on match day!
Ambergate’s second and third XI games were also called off.
Duffield CC also lost all three of their fixtures to the saturated conditions and in division 5N, Belper Amateurs had their home game against Matlock seconds cancelled.
All four of Denby CC’s games fell by the wayside which was of particular disappointment to the first XI after such a good start the previous week.
Belper Meadows were one of very few teams to get some action in, with the majority of the games which went ahead being in the south of the county.
However, it was not a good day as they went down to a heavy defeat. Rolleston (27pts) 249-8 [42 overs] (Tom Rutter 42, Michael James 139*) beat Belper Meadows (6pts) 134 all out [39.5 overs] (Adrian Marsh 38*, Luke Nelson 3-22, Scott Baker 3-53) by 115 runs.
Meadows seconds also managed to play, and they gained a winning draw at home to Langley Mill United seconds. Belper Meadows 2nd XI (12pts) 94-9 [23 overs] (Grant Ball 4-25, Jay Holmes 3-30) drew with Langley Mill United 2nd XI (7pts) 53-7 [23 overs] (Daniel Kelly 3-9).
Meadows thirds had their home game against Ockbrook & Borrowash fourths fall victim to the saturated conditions.
There was only one game in the Derbyshire Premier Cricket League with Alvaston & Boulton (2pts) 158 all out [49.4 overs] (S Stubbings 58, J Rowland 33, M Deane 4-24) losing to Chesterfield (22pts) 159-1 [27.2 overs] (B Slater 64*, P Burdett 54) by 9 wicket.
