Ripley Ravens have extended Mark Woodhouse’s spell working with the senior side at the basketball club.
The club has extended the agreement with Express Coaching Services for him to coach the senior team until the end of January, when the situation will be reviewed again, and player/chairman Martin Simpson feels this is testament to the positive impact Woodhouse has already had in his short time with the Ravens.
Mark Woodhouse is a current Mansfield Giants player, previously a top level player in Europe, England and a former US College. The deal was initially for five weeks but this has already been expanded further and Martin Simpson feels Woodhouse is providing a real boost to the club, which was only set up 14 months ago and is in the middle of its first season of competitive action.
Martin said: “Mark previously coached Spondon Flames last year to an unbeaten record and they were crowned division champions so he has a good track record for taking on new teams. It’s week four now and it didn’t take us long to realise we needed to extend his stay here.
“He’s made a big difference already. It’s a different regime and structure, but we think we can make it work. Mark’s only been in charge for one match so far, against Rolls-Royce. We had a bad first quarter but after a poor start the improvement was there for all to see and, although we lost quite narrowly, we won the other three quarters of the game.
“He’s come here to be objective, he’s come from outside, he’s an experienced professional and we all respect what he is doing. He is making the decisions we were not perhaps able to see needed making and we hope it will help us get that first win soon.”
Ravens go in search of their first win when they host Chilwell at Ripley Leisure Centre on Friday night (7.45pm.)
