Three swimmers from Ripley RASCALS Swimming Club showed their sporting versatility with some excellent results at the Derby Sprint Triathlon, which was held at Etwall.
The event, which attracted 450 competitors, comprised not only a 400m swim but also an 18km (11.5-mile) cycle ride and then a 5km (3.2-mile) run.
However, the RASCALS trio covered themselves in glory, with 16-year-old Adam Barrett finishing in second place in the men’s junior section. He came a fantastic 36th overall and also gained the satisfaction of beating his dad, Graham, by 12 seconds!
Ella Ingram, who is 14, won the ladies’ junior event, thrashing her nearest rival by more than eight minutes. She finished 14th female overall.
The RASCALS team was completed by 16-year-old Andy Parr, who achieved terrific times in the swimming and running sections. Unfortunately, his bike was hampered by mechanical failure on the cycle ride, scuppering his chances of finishing among the leaders.
The club is now looking forward to its annual championships, which will be staged over two days at Alfreton Leisure Centre on Saturday, October 10 and Saturday November 14. Times achieved can be used to enter open meets.
