The Belper and Heanor clubs of the Amber Valley PKA are celebrating a successful end to the year with another medal haul at a recent charity kickboxing event between local clubs from across Nottingham and Derbyshire.

Gareth Collyer, 24, and Karl Meakin, 21, took home two silver medals and one gold from the fundraising tournament organised by Nottingham and Derby club instructors in aid of the British Lung Foundation.

Eight clubs were competing in total across ten pre-matched fights at the event held at Eastwood Community Sports Centre.

A large raffle of prizes was also held with donations provided by students and local businesses raising more than £500.

For many of those participating, it was their first time being actively involved in a tournament, including Karl, who took home the Star Fighter trophy for his display of skill and control.

Instructor Neil Fletcher said: “Some of the best fights we have seen this year as instructors have been at this event. The level of skill, sportsmanship and dedication to the sport shown by the competitors has been fantastic, as well as the money raised for such a great charity”.
