THE new season of the Darley Dale and District Snooker League got underway last week.
The Bob McCartin 6-Red Cup’s main feature turned out to be the local derby between the two teams from Belper Strutt Club.
And it was the No 2 team who usurped the No 1 team with a fine 5-2 victory.
The highlight of the contest was a 22 break in the scotch doubles section from newcomer Chris Stubbs and his partner Adam Winson.
Earlier in the night Andrew Hopkinson, grandson of long standing league custodian Alan, also made a successful debut to set his team on the right track and there was no looking back thereafter.
At Bolehill Institute, the No 1 team hosted Matlock Club and with the visitors hit by a late illness to one of their players, only six frames were played with one held over.
The spoils went to the home team 4-2 with Andrew Brough in impressive form in the singles and Keith Manlove winning both scotch doubles frames he contested.
Due to a football match at Causeway Lane, Gladiators Social Club brought forward their league match at Matlock Golf Club and were narrowly defeated 3-2 with Chris Parker top scoring for the hosts.
