Ryan Taylor bookmarked a successful debut season in the Darley Dale and District Snooker League by winning the open individual handicap competition.

The Alfreton Palmer Morewood No.2 player defeated Duncan Harwood, of Edgefold Club Matlock No.1, 4-1 in the final, which was held at Bolehill Institute.

Taylor took the opener after a double kiss on the deciding black left it over the corner pocket. Harwood levelled by taking the next frame 50-35 before the tenacious Taylor struck the front again with a 59-17 verdict. A classy run of 30 soon put him one leg from victory and a 59-37 scoreline earned him the much-coveted trophy.

Harwood didn’t have to wait long to make amends, however, as the following night, he won the B intermediate individual handicap trophy by beating Bolehill No.2’s Kevin Munnelly 3-0 in the final at Matlock Golf Club.

The Edgefold cueman took the first 67-30 with some solid matchplay and after a scare in the second frame, he took the third 59-31.

Meanwhile the Jaeger Trophy semi-finals got under way, and there was a thriller between league champions Edgefold No.1 and Alfreton Palmer Morewood No.2. The Matlock club edged it after, at one point, needing a snooker in the concluding doubles leg. In the final, they will meet Bolehill No.1, who beat Alfreton Palmer Morewood No.1 3-1 with the help of a 42 break from Ricki Slack and wins from Jamie Rowland and Andrew Beardsley.
