No fewer than 33 Ripley Running Club members, old and new, turned out in cool and breezy conditions to complete the Queen’s Head 5K.
The route, which is a very straightforward out and back along Crich Lane, is desceptively undulating and seemed always to have the wind in your face.
With 121 competitors in all, the Ripley RC contingent certainly added quantity to the field.
First back for Ripley was Matt Jones in ninth place in 18.14 with Ian Duffin four places back.
Andy Parkin and Luke Beresford were 19th and 20th with Matt Nicholls, still only in his first year of racing, putting in a tremendous effort to finish 32nd in a great time of 20.59.
Next in, dressed as Robin and a full nine places in front of Batman, was Martin Penny in 34th with Vin Harlin, 37th just behind.
First Ripley lady on the day, in 40th overall but sixth lady and a time of 21.27, was Stacey Smith who was just in front of Batman, otherwise known as Richard Phillis, 43rd.
Ron Ilsley, Wayne Smithurst and Dennis Holmes just made the top 50 with 44th, 47th and 50th respectively.
The finishing positions and times of all other Ripley runners were then: Karl Tietz 51st/22.13, Carl Hopkinson 56/22.36, Dave Kinder 57/22.38, Cathy Cresswell 62/23.13, Jo Howett 66/23.32, Jerry Bateman 69/23.54, Amy Bradley 75/24.49, Mark Tomlinson 78/25.01, Jay Bird 79/25.03, Esther Broughton 82/25.18, Terry Shepherd 83/25.20, Caroline Moss 87/25.43, Mike Corrigan 89/26.01, Alison Butlin 90/26.12, Paula Brudenell 91/26.15, Thea Highfield 92/26.32, Vicky Leach 98/27.22, Colin Webster 101/28.21, Lee Palfreyman 102/28.23, Dawn Farnsworth 116/31.43 and James Franco 118/33.19.
