Ripley Running Club sent an intrepid team of three over to the internationally renowned Rotterdam Marathon.

Richard Sims, Adele Adams and Angela Forte had been training hard for this 26.2 miler race on the continent.

Adele was first back for Ripley in a great time of 3.50.30, in what was a great marathon debut.

Unfortunately Angela sustained a leg injury after seven miles, but this still didn’t stop her completing the course, accompanied by good friend Richard Sims, who helped her battle through, sneaking in just under the 5hr mark in 4.55.22 and 4.55.23 respectively.

Derwent Duathlon had four members competing in cold and wet weather.

Set in the picturesque Ladybower Reservoir area the team came in as follows: Becky Lineker in 22nd place, 1.59.59, 2nd lady overall, Dave Price 23rd, 2.00.38, Jo Howett 46th 2.17.01 and Eleanor Robinson 57th 2.30.19 1st VL60

Ripley’s Eleanor Robinson recently competed in the Clumber Duathlon at the scenic Clumber Park.

The event doubled up as the official British Duathlon championship, so Eleanor was in for a tough test against the best athletes in the UK.

The race consisted of a 10k run, 40k bike ride and a second 5kilometre run to finish off.

Eleanor managed to finish in 366th position in a time of 2.56.24. This was good enough to finish second in her age category of 65+, giving her a silver medal in the British Championships.

She will attempt to go better when she competes in the European Championships in late April.

Becky Lineker was the sole Ripley Representative at the recent Ashbourne Duathlon, held at Carsington Water in the peak district.

She completed the 5k run, 30k bike and 5k run in 1.40.29, finishing second in her age category.

Ripley also sent a dedicated team to compete in Coniston 14.

A 14 mile lap of Coniston Water in the Lake District is a tough test for any runner, but Ripley’s Luke Beresford managed an astonishing sixth position in this very competitive field of good runners. He finished in 1.24.45.

Dennis Holmes was next for Ripley in 109th, in a time of 1.37.28, followed by Karl Tietz 1.44.09 (185th), Esther Broughton 1.44.29 (194th), Carl Hopkinson 1.48.02 (261st), Cathy Cresswell 1.18.58 (277th), Phil Woodman 1.54.16 (389th), Mike Corrigan 2.03.41(613th).

Ripley Running Club meet on a Tuesday, 6.45pm at Ripley Leisure Centre.
