LAST Sunday saw Ripley Running Club’s top two runners take part in the Sleaford Half-Marathon.
The race starts and finishes from the RAF College Cranwell Sports Pavillion about six miles from Sleaford.
A hard route with a mile off-road as part of the course. Weather conditions were pretty harsh too with gales and the odd shower.
The club has been concentrating on speed work over the last month and it has certainly paid off. Lucy Holmes finished first lady, nine minutes ahead of second place.
She pulled out a 1 hour 27 minute 37 second run out the bag and picked up a shiny trophy too. Nice one Lucy.
As usual, Dean Taylor put in a flying run finishing in ninth place in 1 hour, 19 minutes and 49 seconds. There is no stopping this couple and with more speed-work planned and races booked it looks to be a successful year ahead for Ripley’s dream team.
Meanwhile at the midweek Derby 5K, two of Ripley’s finest tried out at a shorter distance. Dale Annable, one of Ripley’s latest recruits, literally flew round the course. Having just moved to Ripley Running Club from Belper, it was his debut race but what a performance. Knocking 27 seconds of his previous time, Dale completed the race in a staggering 15 minutes 59 seconds.
Simon English also had a great race and bagged himself a personal best time with a 19 minute 4 second run. It looks like they’ll be big things on the horizon for Dale and the top runners in the club could be in for competition.
It was all good for team Ripley though as they continue to go from strength to strength. Having finished third overall in the BBooth Decorators League races, it gives them a place in the National League Plate final which will be held in March at Burton.
Ripley are sure to send out their best team and who knows what trophies could be lining the club shelves this year?
Fancy being part of the team? Ripley Running Club meet every Tuesday at Ripley Leisure Centre. New members always welcome.
