The swimmers of Ripley RASCALS distinguished themselves when the first two competitions of the new season were staged on the same night.
The senior team came fourth in a competitive Notts League gala at Sutton-in-Ashfield against some quality opposition from Sutton and Worksop. While the juniors finished a creditable third in a novice gala at Matlock.
Liam Dawson was the sole winner for the seniors, producing two excellent swims to take both the 50m butterfly and the 50m freestyle in personal-best (PB) times.
However, Harry Wyld achieved two second places in the 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly (PB), while the 14-year-old boys’ team of Wyld, Matt Barrett, George Atkin and Jacob Whittle did well to finish second in both the medley and freestyle relays.
There were also a host of other PBs, clocked by: George Whittle, Anna Booth, Poppy Greenwood, Eleanor Grainger, Jacob Whittle, Morgan Buxton, Rosie Greenwood, Rebecca Pollicott, Bethany Booth, Matt Barrett, Mia Barber, Emily Field, Lizzy Howe and Seth Bullock.
The novices recorded no fewer than nine victories in finishing behind Matlock A and Ilkeston in their seven-team gala.
In the individual races, Thomas Eason won the 25m breaststroke, Jack Wyld the 25m butterfly, Molly Emerton the 25m butterfly, Corey Kohut the 50m butterfly, Harry Quinn the 50m freestyle and Ben Robinson the 100m backstroke.
And in the relays, first places were achieved by the nine-year-old boys’ medley team, the nine-year-old girls’ freestyle team and the 12-year-old boys’ medley team.
PBs were clocked by: Noah Tannahill, Timothy Alldread, Evie Grainger, Molly Emerton, Barney Render, Corey Kahut, Trinity Li, Jessica Dadley-Webb, Ben Robinson, Gilbert Li, Adam Dadley-Webb, Tommy Austin, Freya Layton, Martha Atkin, Joel Tannahill, Benjamin Holmes and Georgia lees.
