Ripley Running Club are the new Derbyshire County Champions for 2015.
The club entered two elite teams in to the event with ladies captain Lucy Taylor bringing the team home in first place in both the Veterans sections and the combined event.
Lucy came home in seventh place overall, good enough to earn her a place on the Derbyshire County team in the national championships later in the year.
Esther Broughton continued her great form in 16th place, followed closely by Cathy Cresswell in 18th, and veteran ultra-distance runner Anne Cook completed the team in 24th place.
For a Ripley team to compete against much bigger clubs and beat them is testament to the quality runners Ripley attracts.
The men’s team also competed well and were up against a very strong field.
Dean Taylor led them home in 28th place, followed by Ryan Ball in 55th, Richard Phillis in 62nd and Carl Hopkinson in 87th.
Long Eaton Running club were the hosts in the latest round of the Booth Decorators League cross country series.
Luke Beresford was back first for Ripley in his highest ever finish in a league race, coming home in fifth place on this very tricky four-mile route.
Dean Taylor was not far behind in 17th place, only a day after taking a bronze medal in the Northern Cross Country Championships at Wollaton Park.
Matt Jones (34th), Richard Kimber (41st), Ryan Ball (54th), Mick Wareham (57th) and Junior Matthew Jackson (63rd) completed the scoring team for Ripley.
