Ilkeston 4ths 20

Ripley Rhinos RFC 7

Rhinos ultimately came up short in this friendly at Ilkeston 4ths.

The maroons stopped Ilkeston’s younger side from using the large pitch and possession they had with solid defence.

The Elks did manage two unconverted tries in the first half but Ripley struck back with a great solo effort from captain Will Evans that the fly half also converted himself, leaving the score at half time as 10-7 to the home team and with all still to play for.

The second half saw Ilkeston have the majority of possession but Ripley threatened on the counter attack.

Eventually the home side scored twice more to run out 20-7 winners.

This was a pleasing display from the Ripley men, though it ultimately proved to be another defeat.

The team worked hard and flanker Zeique Robinson just pipped No. 8 Karl Ickeringill and scrum half Mitch Wilmott to his team’s BAB Plumbing & Heating man of the match award.

Rhinos travel to Paviors RFC on Saturday to take on Lowdham Lions in the Pennant league.
