Another fantastic night of darts took place at Somercotes Snooker Club, the home of the Ripley Elite Darts Singles League when 72 players assembled in the strongest line-up to date for the third Xmas Open.
With the previous winner of the past two years, Dean Winstanley, unavailable due to his fantastic result in the world championships, a new name was going to be added to this year’s title.
Professional player Mark Hylton turned up again for the second consecutive competition but his hopes were shot down in round one by a REDSL ever present, Ripley’s Daz Sinfield, who continued his form to reach the semi-final before eventually losing to Runner up Simon Birkett.
Reece Spurr made sure the title stayed at the Somercotes venue as the Premier Division title contender playED fantastic darts all night, finishing being his strength, beating Tony Palfreyman, Andy Umney, Daz Brown, Rich Palmer and an impressive Ian Richardson on his way to the final.
Spurr’s fantastic finishing was the main factor in his 5-1 demolition of Chesterfield’s Super Six founder Simon Birkett, aptly taking out 157 to win the title and the £250 first prize.
