Ripley Netball Club continues to go from strength to strength in its 20th anniversary years, as shown by three recent successes.
Ripley youngster Cherese Naylor (15) is one of only six girls selected from the East Midlands to go to England trials at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.
These are taking place on Saturday, March 22.
Cherese has had great success over the years. She has been part of the Derbyshire County netball programme since school Year Six until gaining a place in the Regional academy in Year Nine.
Now in Year 11, she is one of ten girls in the Regional Performance academy. Cherese also gained a place in Loughborough Lightning’s NPL (national performance league) squad, something she could only dream of a few years ago. All of this training takes her to Loughborough University three to four times every week.
Another Ripley player, Freya Wood (14), gained a place alongside eight other of Ripley’s u16s players in the Derbyshire County Academy. Freya has also been accepted into the regional academy. She trains every other weekend at Loughborough.
Finally, Ripley Netball Clubs u16s squad has qualified for the regional u16s tournament as Derbyshire champions. They played other u16s clubs within the county without defeat, beating Pennine 42-22. Allestree 33-17. High Peak 33-12 and Stiletto 27-7.
They now qualify for the regional round at Loughborough University, on Sunday, March 23, where there will be two teams from each of the five counties from the East Midlands. The top two teams from the region then go onto the nationals in May.
The players are Cherese Naylor (captain), Freya Wood, Sharna Bestwick, Orla Fox, Chelsea Bradford, Millie Hicking, Dani Hollingsworth, Sanchia Kuzniarz, Roya Mehdizah and Katie Rowe.
