Jones runs three peaks

Ripley Running Club’s Matt Jones took a trip to Wales to compete in the Ras y Moelwyn (the Moelwyn Race).

This was a tough fell run from Blaenau Ffestiniog going over the three peaks of Moelwyn Mawr, Moelwyn Bach and Moel yr Hydd.

Looking down from the peaks were breathtaking views of a ten-and-a-half-mile course with an altitude gain of 2,800 feet.

Matt ran this race in 1.36.12 and was placed 30th out of 156 runners

Two other members of Ripley RC also took part in the Shakespeare half marathon in deceptively humid conditions. Numerous water stations were welcomed with abundance.

The race was one lap of a beautiful scenic route, through pretty villages which had plenty of support from spectators.

The runners were treated to a course that was fairly flat with some hilly inclines throughout.

Dave Kinder crossed the finish line in 367th place at 1.42.36 and Vicky Leach crossed in 1085th place at 2.00.03. There were 1,995 runners.

Three members of the club also ran the Easter 10k in the beautiful setting of Wollaton Park.

A lovely spring day saw Simon English crossing the line in 79th place with a time of 43.59, Amy Bradley 178th place (49.04) and Lorraine Griffiths 329th place (55.14) There were a total of 571 runners.

Amy Bradley also ran the Broxtowe 5K in 24.04. Taking place in the beautiful scenery of Broxtowe Hills Park, the weather conditions weren’t too kind for these runners. Cold, wet and muddy was the menu for the day.

Ripley Running Club meets every Tuesday, from 6.45pm at Ripley Leisure Centre, Derby Road, and encourages runners of all abilities to come and join in for a run.
