Jones records marvellous time at Burbage fell race

RIPLEY Running Club had two fell-runing members attend the Burbage Skyline race, the second race of the Accelerate Gritstone series organised by the Dark Peak running club.

It was a beautifully scenic route for both Matt Jones and Wayne Smithurst, but a very wet and boggy five-mile course.

Jones came back in a marvellous time of 43 mins 55 secs in 21st position while Wayne Smithurst came back in 105th place in a time of 50 mins 12 secs (379 ran).

Anglesey

Last Saturday was the Cressbook Crawl fell run Wayne Smithurst was the only Ripley runner to brave this race, it started at the village of Cressbrook and passed through dales a plenty Cressbrook Dale, Millers Dale, High Dale, Taddington Dale, Monsal Dale and Upper Dale with breathtaking views throughout Wayne Smithurst did excellently coming back in 13th place in a time of 54 mins 47 secs (74 ran).

The same day was the Notts 10 mile road race a two-lap course around the Holme Pierrepoint water sports centre in Nottingham this race attracted club runners from a wide area of the country. One Ripley runner Ryan Ball did marvelously here coming back in a personal best time of 1 hr 7 mins 10 secs and in 35th place (262 ran).

Anglesey

Last Sunday saw Stevie Thomas of Ripley travel to Anglesey in North Wales for the Anglesey Half Marathon island race this was a new course for 2012 which took runners across the world famous Menai Bridge and followed the coastal road to the Beaumaris Castle and then turning back along the coastal road to the finish.

Stevie was in decent form and smashed his personal best by 13 minutes coming home in 1hr 55 mins 7 secs in 231st place.(458 ran)
